Visit to the Vatican Grottoes
The Vatican Grottoes may be visited free of charge from Monday to Sunday, from 9.00 to 18.00. Guided tours cannot be request, and photography is forbidden during the visit.
Visit to the Dome
To visit the Dome, proceed by elevator to the level of the terrace of the Basilica. The climb to the Dome is on foot and is not assisted by elevator.
Therefore, the visit is not recommended for:

Closing at 18.00 (in the case of large numbers of people, closure may be around 30 minutes earlier depending on the queue)

The self-guided tour service is available from Monday to Sunday from 7.30 to 18.00.

§ full-price ticket, climb on foot (551 steps) at a cost of 8€;
§ reduced ticket with climb on foot (551 steps) at a cost of 5€.
Therefore, the visit is not recommended for:
- people suffering from heart problems;
- people suffering from claustrophobia or vertigo;
- people with respiratory problems;
- pregnant women;
- people with reduced or impaired mobility.
